That first spring harvest is always so wonderful! I'm still struggling with trying to grow lettuce, which is the only veggie I really miss here.

I planted a greens bed in late April, and nothing was coming up by late May so I thought it was maybe the soil I had in that bed. I added some black dirt, planted pickling cucumbers in that same bed, and now I have spinach and kale coming up with the cucumber sprouts!

I just started harvesting lettuce, too, and expected it earlier. But it tastes great! Your sugar snaps look wonderful. I've never had luck with those.

I live in Southern MN, west of Mankato and my lettuce is really slow too. A lot of things are slow this year, cukes, squash, melon, potatoes. If I used transplants, they are right on time, but the things I planted from seed are slow. I am not sure why.

My lettuce is taking forever too, and I'm also in Minneapolis. Just when it finally looked great, a rabbit discovered a new way to sneak through the fence--clear cut the whole row. Glad you're getting to eat yours. I'm sure it was worth the wait!

Kate

Slow or not, I am envious. Here in Florida it difficult for me to grow lettuce at all!

Joe

All your vegetables look delicious!

Sometimes lettuce can be quite finicky...I've had it grow like crazy, and sometimes it dies before producing an salad-sized leaves.
