Deer tend to group together in much larger herds in the winter. Some of the moms have sent their last year's fawns out to live on their own; also if one deer of a family group has died (coyote or car), they may find another family group to start hanging around with. The groups will get smaller in the spring once the does start having their babies.
They're fun to watch as long as they're not chewing on trees or shrubs in your yard--a group this size could do a lot of damage in a short amount of time (that's why I'm putting out corn for my deer to eat)
