When I walked out the door this morning, I heard a cacophony of birds. I looked across the pond and saw perhaps hundreds of birds flitting around the trees. I went back inside for the binoculars, and discovered that it was a huge flock of robins. I've never seen so many robins at one time.
My fanciful interpretation is that the robins were basically giving the finger to winter, which is what we all want to do right now. It snowed all day yesterday - the picture on top is the view from the front walk at about 7:30 am this morning.
One thing I discovered from this snow is that putting in gravel throughout the vegetable garden really does warm things up. If you look closely at the picture to the right - taken last night - you'll see that there is no snow on the gravel (or on the beds), but lots of snow on the neighbor's hill across the street. When you live in Zone 4a, every few degrees of extra warmth counts!
The good news is that we're supposed to turn a corner this weekend. It's supposed to be sunny through at least Sunday, with highs reaching the 60s. That means we can finally get outside to start cleaning up the garden, adding compost to the beds, and maybe even planting some peas, lettuce and spinach. Finally!
A few more pictures from the last (?) snowfall of the season
Very pretty photos, Tracy. I hope you're right about it being the last snowfall - we are ready for a little spring!!!

It is pretty though, but even prettier when you know it'll be gone in a little while. Maybe even tonight!

I hope you're right that it's the last gasp. :)

Not you, too! Aughhh! And I WAS considering coming out to visit warmer, less snowier climes! ;-)
Thanks for the report on the gravel, I like the idea of snow disappearing more quickly.

Pretty? Well . . . I guess so. Snow like that is much prettier in December than April! But it's gone now - one day of sun did the trick. Like all of you, I'm really ready for spring.
Ali: Anytime you want to visit "warmer" climes, you're welcome to come to Minnesota, but I would choose July or August if you really want heat (and humidity)!
