Now that it's March and spring is officially only 20 days away, I guess winter has decided it's finally time to hit Minnesota. Yesterday we got another foot of snow on top of the 10-12 inches we got last week. It was an official blizzard in many parts of the state, with high winds and zero visibility.
I took this picture yesterday about 11:00 am. It looks dark because the snow is falling so hard. If I had a better camera, it would probably be easier to see just how hard it was snowing. I would guess that we received about 12" in our neighborhood.
Ironically, I had already decided to take the day off because we were getting a new washer and dryer delivered (the old dryer died last weekend). The delivery was scheduled for "morning," and my plan was to do a bunch of errands in the afternoon: buy a new PDA/cell phone; go to an eye appointment; sit down with a banker about a trade association's bank accounts; get new batteries in three watches; and shop for some perfume (and whatever else I saw at the mall).
The appliance delivery guys showed up at about 9:45 and were done by 10:30. It was snowing and was supposed to snow for the entire day, but the plow had already been by, and since we live on a small street, I figured the other roads must be plowed and okay. I set out, and within a mile of the house I was almost in an accident. I was only going about 20-25 mph and suddenly the car just started sliding to the side. There were four cars on the side of the road ahead of me, and I thought for sure I was going to plow into them. Luckily, I managed to get my car under control just before I got to them.
At that point, I figured I was out anyway and might as well go to my first stop - the Sprint store. (When it's questionable whether all errands will be completed in a day, for me the toy wins out as the first stop.) I got there safely but the snow was coming down even heavier. After getting my new phone (Palm Treo 700wx) and a new phone for Spouse (Samsung M500), I decided to turn around and go home.
So, I spent a cozy afternoon watching the snow and playing with my new phone, which was just fine with me.
